“India is, the cradle of the human
race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of
legend, and the great grandmother of tradition. Our most valuable and most
instructive materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only.” - Mark Twain
Independence
Day was coming and like every year our school organize a big function. This day
represent the sacrifices and movement India did to get independence from
British. I gave my name for hosting the show, our CAS coordinator selected me
and Urja Themaskar. This activity was a new challenge for me. Patriotism was in the air, everyone was working for the
occasion. I and Urja planned the whole event, we made a list of events. Then we wrote the hosting material.
I started memorizing everything because we had a practice the day after.
Independence
Day: We started the event council members’ felicitation ceremony. I was made
the head boy of our school. I lead the march-pass and then we took oath to follow
the responsibility given to us.
I was very
excited because hosting such big event is a huge responsibility. This was an
opportunity for me to show my patriotism. I and Urja were very serious about
this responsibility. I started by giving some information about the Day.
Independence
Day, observed annually on 15, August, is a National Holiday in India
commemorating the nation's independence from the British Empire on 15 August
1947. India attained independence following an Independence Movement noted for
largely nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience led by the Indian National
Congress (INC). Independence coincided with the partition of India, in which
the British Indian Empire was divided along religious lines into the Dominions
of India and Pakistan; the partition was accompanied by violent riots and mass
casualties, and the displacement of nearly 15 million people due to sectarian
violence.
On 15 August
1947, Jawaharlal Nehru, who had become the first Prime Minister of India that
day, raised the Indian national flag above the Lahore Gate of the Red Fort in
Delhi. On each subsequent Independence Day, the Prime Minister has raised the
flag and given a speech.
The first
performance was by PYP children. It was amazing and had a very good message in
it.
Then Swar
Nakhate gave speech in Hindi. It was a spectacular experience watching such
small kid present some great thoughts with amazing language.
