World Literacy Day

Date: 8 September 2014
Criteria of CAS – Service
Approximate time - 3 hours
Venue – D Y Patil International School, Nagpur

On occasion of World Literacy day, we decided to do an assembly in our school and explain about the importance of education. We planned the activity with our CAS coordinator ma’am. She suggested us to share information and facts to make an impact in the audience’s mind. I volunteered for the introduction part.
To prepare for the assembly we made posters on the topic. We wrote slogans regarding importance of education. Our art teacher Mrs. Deepshri Halve helped us a lot in this. Then we pasted all the slogans and posters in the assembly room, one day before the event.
According to UNESCO, in the world today there are about 1 billion non-literate adults. This 1 billion is approximately 26 percent of the world's adult population. Women make up two-thirds of all non-literates. 98 percent of all non-literates live in developing countries. In India 25.95 percent of population is illiterate. It is very important for we educated people understand the importance education. Lives of uneducated people is miserable. They all feel bad that they didn’t have the opportunity to go to school and learn. Education plays a very important role in our life. It forms a base for our ethics and knowledge.
The students and teacher listen very carefully to every information we gave. We also showed a video on importance of education. We worked collaboratively for this message. Our Director Sir were also impressed by the work we did and appreciated it.
